Topic Wiki

Below is a link to a list of modems that are compatible with Optimum. Depending on the speed you have you will need to get a modem that can accommodate that speed.
A modem has channels that represent the speed it can handle. It's displayed as download channels x upload channels, so a 16x8 modem means it has 16 download channels and 8 upload channels.

It's not recommended to get anything lower than 16X8 since speeds are only going up in the future.
Chart showing the channels needed to support the Optimum speed

  • Optimum 100, 8x4 or higher
  • Optimum 200, 16x8 or higher
  • Optimum 400, 24x8 or higher

There are many modems available on Craigslist's and eBay as well, there is no need to buy a new one as long as it's compatible.
https://pickmymodem.com/approved-modems-for-optimum-cablevision-internet-service/

Once you have the modem you can call Optimum tech support and ask them to provision a new modem and give them the MAC id located a the modem. They will also send you a prepaid FedEx label to return their modem and the price will be reflected on your next bill. You just saved $10 - $10.89 a month in fees.

I got the same offer for 53.99 or 53.49 for 200mbps/12months. Although they didn't offer the autopay discount or give me a credit for this past month.

That's super high!

I pay less for gigabit and the rented modem.

Funny thing: in Brooklyn 400mbps costs the same as gigabit when signing up.

That’s basically what you’re paying for, I don’t think you can expect much better

You can try connecting to the optimumwifi hotspot. You may be able to get faster speeds.

what makes you ask?

happens to be its a laptop

most newer ones have gigabit network speed
my laptop is almost 10 years old, keyboard and monitor are smashed, I have external keyboard and monitor and changed HD to SSD, 4GB ram
some cell phones have more ram then my primary work computer

I'm guessing your 10 year old laptop has usb 2.0 ports. So get a usb to Ethernet adapter and be sure to update drivers if needed. Speed should improve.
The adapter should be  gigabit speed otherwise it will be the same.
It's worth too much.

I was supposed to have a tech come down to install altice advantage today but no one came and can’t get through to anyone. Suddenly my regular internet is not working either.
Does anyone know a way I can reach a live person that knows what they are talking about?

Did anyone have an issue opting in for McAfee suite at $. 99 per month? They stopped giving it away for free but it says 2.99 when I try to add. Today supposedly the deadline. I called to add & spent awhile having them transfer me to the right department. BTW  I don't see any cheaper alternatives, I have 3 devices and I didn't see anything that would be as cheap as $12 /yr...

I have a one year/3 devices code for McAfee software. I'm not sure exactly which one it is. The redeem page just says McAfee multi access.  I don't need it I can give it to you if you  want.
