Below is a link to a list of modems that are compatible with Optimum. Depending on the speed you have you will need to get a modem that can accommodate that speed.
A modem has channels that represent the speed it can handle. It's displayed as download channels x upload channels, so a 16x8 modem means it has 16 download channels and 8 upload channels.

It's not recommended to get anything lower than 16X8 since speeds are only going up in the future.
Chart showing the channels needed to support the Optimum speed

  • Optimum 100, 8x4 or higher
  • Optimum 200, 16x8 or higher
  • Optimum 400, 24x8 or higher

There are many modems available on Craigslist's and eBay as well, there is no need to buy a new one as long as it's compatible.
https://pickmymodem.com/approved-modems-for-optimum-cablevision-internet-service/

Once you have the modem you can call Optimum tech support and ask them to provision a new modem and give them the MAC id located a the modem. They will also send you a prepaid FedEx label to return their modem and the price will be reflected on your next bill. You just saved $10 - $10.89 a month in fees.

I was supposed to have a tech come down to install altice advantage today but no one came and can’t get through to anyone. Suddenly my regular internet is not working either.
Does anyone know a way I can reach a live person that knows what they are talking about?
Can somebody help me? They told me that seeing as I have an active service I cannot get altice advantage, is there anything I can do to get it?

Cancel first Optimum. An hour later, call Altice to install it on someone else's name (spouse etc).

So is Altice Advantage Internet by Optimum really $14.99 flat or do they add both the $3.50 Network Administration Fee and a $10.00 modem fee?

My mom mailed her application with the necessary documents needed for approval. I'm planning on giving her my purchased own Arris TM822 Optimum internet modem that I had when I was with Optimum. However, I'm hoping they don't force her to rent out a cable modem for additional monthly fee. That will just the defeat the whole $14.99 price tag and dreadful application process.

Also how much was the installation fee if there was any?

I'm done with optimum, putting my hopes on starlink, I'm writing this while sitting in intersection where I spotted Wi-Fi connectivity

Wake me up when satellite service is reliable enough and has decently high bandwidth and low latency to be usable.

If you have a battery pack (car charger), and a small car power inverter ($15-$20), you can power the modem and router through that, and use the internet even if the whole house doesn't have electricity. Mine had enough power for my OBI and cordless phone, so those worked too (and also to charge the laptop)

Make sure to drive so car battery doesnt die.

Did you talk to Optimum CS or Altice CS?

Call the Altice number 8443583147 (the website security certificate is expired, if you don't feel safe applying online until that gets fixed).
