Topic Wiki

Below is a link to a list of modems that are compatible with Optimum. Depending on the speed you have you will need to get a modem that can accommodate that speed.
A modem has channels that represent the speed it can handle. It's displayed as download channels x upload channels, so a 16x8 modem means it has 16 download channels and 8 upload channels.

It's not recommended to get anything lower than 16X8 since speeds are only going up in the future.
Chart showing the channels needed to support the Optimum speed

  • Optimum 100, 8x4 or higher
  • Optimum 200, 16x8 or higher
  • Optimum 400, 24x8 or higher

There are many modems available on Craigslist's and eBay as well, there is no need to buy a new one as long as it's compatible.
https://pickmymodem.com/approved-modems-for-optimum-cablevision-internet-service/

Once you have the modem you can call Optimum tech support and ask them to provision a new modem and give them the MAC id located a the modem. They will also send you a prepaid FedEx label to return their modem and the price will be reflected on your next bill. You just saved $10 - $10.89 a month in fees.

If Optimum would know how much you save their customers, they would pay you so switch to a different provider so that you shouldn't not be familiar with their inner workings...

Simply for saying your name is cgr? What are you not telling us, I get that they would keep the same price but why increase the speed?

Looks like the retention team is trained that way. I'm not even complaining when I call- I simply state that my bill increased by X and is there anything they can do.

Indeed!

However...

I had a rosh yeshiva once who told us that a bais medrash, by default, has no cellphone waves inside. As long as no bochur brings their phone to the bais medrash, Hashem keeps the waves out, so it remains an unblemished makom kadosh. However, if someone brings their phone in, Hashem does not want to do an open miracle and make there be no service, so he lets the waves go in.

With that reasoning...
@YitzyS
Reb Meir Simcha knew about cellphones??

They can't just give a discount for no reason.
What they do is change your plan and offer a promotional rate for the new plan.

As if the US wasn't behind enough.
And large parts of Lakewood dont have the option to switch to Verizon/FIOS, because the township committee just doesnt care to mandate the installation of phone lines into new construction.

Verizon stopped charging for FiOS installations in developments about 2 years ago.

you need to get one that supports phone.
Verizon stopped charging for FiOS installations in developments about 2 years ago.
The developer may get a kickback from Optimum for giving them exclusive access.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.
