Topic Wiki

Below is a link to a list of modems that are compatible with Optimum. Depending on the speed you have you will need to get a modem that can accommodate that speed.
A modem has channels that represent the speed it can handle. It's displayed as download channels x upload channels, so a 16x8 modem means it has 16 download channels and 8 upload channels.

It's not recommended to get anything lower than 16X8 since speeds are only going up in the future.
Chart showing the channels needed to support the Optimum speed

  • Optimum 100, 8x4 or higher
  • Optimum 200, 16x8 or higher
  • Optimum 400, 24x8 or higher

There are many modems available on Craigslist's and eBay as well, there is no need to buy a new one as long as it's compatible.
https://pickmymodem.com/approved-modems-for-optimum-cablevision-internet-service/

Once you have the modem you can call Optimum tech support and ask them to provision a new modem and give them the MAC id located a the modem. They will also send you a prepaid FedEx label to return their modem and the price will be reflected on your next bill. You just saved $10 - $10.89 a month in fees.

Wow, do you have FiOS available?

Yes, I had them for years and I left them after they raised me (my rant about the whole episode is here somewhere). The speed is fine for my needs and I'm very happy getting "free money" like this yearly.

If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

They seem to be offering a 300mbs for $29.99...thinking about reaching out to them again to lower it.

How there are also wireless broadband options like T-Mo's 5G for home.

Yup that's $50/M though. (Has great download speed but not great up)

Depends on location but they definitely have that deal and prices by FiOS include tax unlike optimum

ARRIS Touchstone TM822G DOCSIS 3.0 8x4 Telephony Modem Black.
No idea if it's better but works fine for us and can have 2 phone lines.

Are you also charged these Miscellaneous charges?
Here's what mine looks like. I base it off the new intro pricing they have for new customers and that's my leveling ground for the price I should be paying, being that I'm a customer for x amount of years.

They stopped billing me for the Network Fee which is why I pay $3.50 less a month.

I have 300mps and pay $38.49 monthly. I have my own modem and router… my neighbor pays the same amount and he also has Optimums modem/router. Does everyone here get away with paying extra for optimums modem/router?

I have optimum, 300mb, but the connection lags more often.

This might be because we have more and more computers and devices (naki radio, cell phone streaming music, etc) connected - would the issue here be the modem (Arris SB6183), the wifi router, or something else entirely?

GB=gigabyte?

If so, no, only 300 MB. Everything is wifi except for my 2 Obi devices.
