Below is a link to a list of modems that are compatible with Optimum. Depending on the speed you have you will need to get a modem that can accommodate that speed.
A modem has channels that represent the speed it can handle. It's displayed as download channels x upload channels, so a 16x8 modem means it has 16 download channels and 8 upload channels.

It's not recommended to get anything lower than 16X8 since speeds are only going up in the future.
Chart showing the channels needed to support the Optimum speed

  • Optimum 100, 8x4 or higher
  • Optimum 200, 16x8 or higher
  • Optimum 400, 24x8 or higher

There are many modems available on Craigslist's and eBay as well, there is no need to buy a new one as long as it's compatible.
https://pickmymodem.com/approved-modems-for-optimum-cablevision-internet-service/

Once you have the modem you can call Optimum tech support and ask them to provision a new modem and give them the MAC id located a the modem. They will also send you a prepaid FedEx label to return their modem and the price will be reflected on your next bill. You just saved $10 - $10.89 a month in fees.

This is what I've been paying since I signed up just over a year ago, and I got the free iPod touch.

Whixh tv package
Triple play (I think)
Though when I did sign up I told them I was switching from Dish, and they made me send in a bill for proof. My friends mother has dish so we altered the bill to say my name and faxed it over... When my friend did the same thing with Optimum they didn't make him send in a bill...

They don't make it easy to get the 29.95 for another year. I basically had to battle the rep to get it. For 10 minutes he was offering me bundles, upgraded speed, discussing Verizon's prices etc. I had to yell at him, "All I want is a yes or no from you. Can you give me another year of the same service at 29.95?"

In the end I have to pay 49.95 for the first few days of the billing period, and my new billing period starts today at 29.95 for another 12 months.

I called yesterday, when I asked for a supervisor (after half an hour of him trying to upsell me) he came back with an offer of $29.95 for regular and $44.95 for Boost Plus.

They are very persistent. But also stupid, no change of tactics, it was 10 minutes of the same line at least 20 times.

I got off easy with 10 minutes, and 7 minutes on hold while he spoke to a super. I doubt he needed a supers permission, they put you on hold hoping you will just hang up and pay the 49.95
