Below is a link to a list of modems that are compatible with Optimum. Depending on the speed you have you will need to get a modem that can accommodate that speed.
A modem has channels that represent the speed it can handle. It's displayed as download channels x upload channels, so a 16x8 modem means it has 16 download channels and 8 upload channels.

It's not recommended to get anything lower than 16X8 since speeds are only going up in the future.
Chart showing the channels needed to support the Optimum speed

  • Optimum 100, 8x4 or higher
  • Optimum 200, 16x8 or higher
  • Optimum 400, 24x8 or higher

There are many modems available on Craigslist's and eBay as well, there is no need to buy a new one as long as it's compatible.
https://pickmymodem.com/approved-modems-for-optimum-cablevision-internet-service/

Once you have the modem you can call Optimum tech support and ask them to provision a new modem and give them the MAC id located a the modem. They will also send you a prepaid FedEx label to return their modem and the price will be reflected on your next bill. You just saved $10 - $10.89 a month in fees.

Is there a direct number to the retention department?

I called yesterday, when I asked for a supervisor (after half an hour of him trying to upsell me) he came back with an offer of $29.95 for regular and $44.95 for Boost Plus.
I settled for that last year. cant imagine them letting me downgrade back to just 29.95 right?

The promotion on my optimum online ended this week and it went back to regular pricing. Took me 20 minutes on hold until someone picked up, but from there it was just 3 minutes until I got the promo added back on for the third consecutive year  :)

Couple of years ago I had them switch service from my wife's to my name and it worked. The next year the reps couldn't make that happen though.

Look at this:  >:(

New rates for Optimum Online customers.
For 10 years, Optimum Online has remained at the same low price.
However, effective with your next billing statement, the price for
Optimum Online will increase by $5 per month.
Over the years, we’ve maintained our commitment to add value to your
service, like an extensive network upgrade to deliver on average more
than 100% of the speeds we advertise. Or there’s the continuing expansion
of freeWiFi provided by Optimum hotspots to help you avoid paying
expensive data charges on wireless devices. As of today, there are over
50,000 Optimum hotspots in the service area and this number grows each
week. Plus, there’s more value-added innovation to come.
Thanks for being an Optimum customer. We appreciate your business.

probably not, that would be a promotional price that wouldn't get affected.

I had 29.95 for internet extended to two years cuz I added boost for 14.95.
Any solution to get them to extend rate? which dept is best to HUCA, sales, disconnect.
Also is there any alternative decent internet only service in Lakewood NJ for less that $50 a month?

extended my promo by adding basic TV, Now its ~$51 including boost.
I noticed that on the bill there is a ~$7 charge for renting the TV equipment. As I dont have a TV I called to ask if I can return the equipment but still "have" TV...
she asked her supervisor he said no way, how can we sell you tv without renting you the ability to use it? ::)...
HUCA or just go to store and return it?
