Topic Wiki

Below is a link to a list of modems that are compatible with Optimum. Depending on the speed you have you will need to get a modem that can accommodate that speed.
A modem has channels that represent the speed it can handle. It's displayed as download channels x upload channels, so a 16x8 modem means it has 16 download channels and 8 upload channels.

It's not recommended to get anything lower than 16X8 since speeds are only going up in the future.
Chart showing the channels needed to support the Optimum speed

  • Optimum 100, 8x4 or higher
  • Optimum 200, 16x8 or higher
  • Optimum 400, 24x8 or higher

There are many modems available on Craigslist's and eBay as well, there is no need to buy a new one as long as it's compatible.
https://pickmymodem.com/approved-modems-for-optimum-cablevision-internet-service/

Once you have the modem you can call Optimum tech support and ask them to provision a new modem and give them the MAC id located a the modem. They will also send you a prepaid FedEx label to return their modem and the price will be reflected on your next bill. You just saved $10 - $10.89 a month in fees.

my one-year 29.99 promo ran out and was set to go to 54.95.  Called disconnect dept, told them i would go to Verizon for faster speeds and maybe for less $$.

CS rep switched me to 39.99 plan and gave me free BOOST service (up to 50 mbps?) and is sending me a faster modem by fedex.

Total time on call: less than 5 mins!

WOW I have to call them back! Same thing happened to me 29.99 promo ended, saw 54.95 on the bill, offered me $39.99 for the year..but no boost!

My CV/Optimum internet just went up from $30 to $55. Called retention, and they put me on the $40 plan, saying this is the best offer even for new customers.

Thinking of switching to FreedomPop:
$19 /mo
8mbps
10 Gb /mo limit

The limit isn't a problem for me, but the bandwidth might be if the speeds are worse than posted.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks! :)

Just did the retention spiel. Ended up with:

Preferred package on 2 TVs, DVR Plus, Showtime and Encore with their on demands
Boost Plus internet
Phone

for $105.85 plus tax.

Not bad, but I've done better.
DVR Plus?

They gave me pretty much the same but only 1 TV and DVR (regular?) for $101 plus tax.

So my $29.99 just ended this month, called and they said lowest price right now is $39.99 even for new customers, she offered me the price but wouldn;t give me the boost for free, asked for $5 extra, even after a few minutes of back and forth

any ideas?

I just got a shutoff notice from optimum.  :P
My bill is $120 instead of $60 ($29.99 pm)
I called and they said call "Retention" in the morning 866.644.4688
Wish me luck!   ;)
P.S. all these posts talk about lowering it for the future.
What about the past two months?
Any experiences?
