Topic Wiki

Below is a link to a list of modems that are compatible with Optimum. Depending on the speed you have you will need to get a modem that can accommodate that speed.
A modem has channels that represent the speed it can handle. It's displayed as download channels x upload channels, so a 16x8 modem means it has 16 download channels and 8 upload channels.

It's not recommended to get anything lower than 16X8 since speeds are only going up in the future.
Chart showing the channels needed to support the Optimum speed

  • Optimum 100, 8x4 or higher
  • Optimum 200, 16x8 or higher
  • Optimum 400, 24x8 or higher

There are many modems available on Craigslist's and eBay as well, there is no need to buy a new one as long as it's compatible.
https://pickmymodem.com/approved-modems-for-optimum-cablevision-internet-service/

Once you have the modem you can call Optimum tech support and ask them to provision a new modem and give them the MAC id located a the modem. They will also send you a prepaid FedEx label to return their modem and the price will be reflected on your next bill. You just saved $10 - $10.89 a month in fees.

AFAIK the next level up is 50/25.

Wa told tonight that the 39.95 promo ended a few months ago and now 49.95 is sign up promo for 15/5. 4.95 to upgrade to 50/25. Wasn't offered anything in between.

Just upgraded to the more expensive one and started out getting 50/25 but now am getting closer to your download speed. A little faster on the upload, though.

Are you on wifi or wired?

I called retention and asked for an offer. They gave me every offer they could other than the $40 I wanted. Finally after 10 minutes I asked "don't you have a $40 offer?" he said yes hesitantly, and then applied it to my account.
No Fios by me.

Called in today and all they would do is keep me at $59.95 (my $29.95 expired) and increase my speed to 50/25.
I guess I'll try to use that to bargain back to lower price.

They are saying that I have been on promotion since 2010 and my account is not eligible for promotion at this point.
Any ideas?

Have you spoken to a rep from the retentions department? They've given me promotional pricing after regular customer service reps said nothing could be done.

Spoke to retention 2x (A CS rep actually told me that there was not retention dept :) ). They won't budge.

I called optimum to complain about my internet service being down for a few days. They gave me a credit for those days as well as a new wireless router.

Not to bad if I may say so.
