CO miles question! Please help me make the decision!
« on: May 11, 2011, 02:07:59 AM »
I am right now in Chicago, and I have already booked 3 roundtrip tickets:
ORD-HKG 15574 miles on May 16th
ORD-CDG 8818 miles.  in June
ORD-HKG 15574 miles  in Nov

And right now I have 8779 miles (EQMs) in my account.
If I right now spend $1955 on one pass miles maximizer to get 27227 EQMs and 27227 RDMs then
I will instantly upgrade to silver status. (8779+27227=36006EQMs)
And my ORD-HKG Rtrip will boost to 19468miles (25% more) then I get gold status
And my ORD-CDG Rtrip will boost to 17636miles (100%more)
And my November ORD-HKG Rtrip will boost to 31148miles (100%more) then I get platinum status.
(EQM 8779+27227=36006+19468+17636+31148=104258)
Yeh, and I will get 6 system wide oneway instant upgrade for flying 100k.

Simplified the Deal that $1955 get me 78155 miles and platinum status and 6 free upgrades.
That is 0.25cpm.

So what do you guys think of the deal?

A few things:
I don't know about miles boost or maximizer or whatever its called, but you defiantly DO NOT get the status bonus on your EQMs, just your RDMs.
For example, let's say its January 10th, and last year you earned Gold status. You are taking your first flight on the year, and fly ORD-LGA RT. You will get 1466 EQMs, and 2932 RDMs.

Regarding how much points are worth: RDMs aren't worth that much, but EQMs, depending on your individual situation, may be, and you need to make that decision.

Also, you mean 2.5cpm, not 1/4cpm.

What about if you buy Gold now via maximizer to get 100% on all of your flights as well as exit row access on all flights?
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Run the numbers and see if the 100% miles + exit row will be worth it or not.

Just a quick explanation of OnePass Elite Maximizer:

When you book a ticket, after ticket is confirmed, you can purchase additional miles.  Amount of miles for sale will depend on the ticket.  Domestic flights as well as one-way tickets, or tickets where the first leg has been flown, will allow you to purchase double or triple miles.  International flights generally offer 7,500 or 20,000 miles.  Once you purchase those miles, they are immediately (or a few hours later) deposited into your account.  You have the option, if already purchasing RDMs, to purchase EQMs as well.  People who are a few miles short of the next elite level will sometimes book a fully refundable Y ticket, purchase the RDMs/EQMs, (you cannot purchase only EQMs...they must be purchased in conjunction with RDMs, as opposed to the RDMs which can be purchased separately), and then cancel the ticket.

As for elite bonuses: Silver has a 25% bonus, Gold/Platinum have 100% bonus.  But this is only for RDMs!  The only bonuses available for EQMs are by purchasing Y/B fares in economy (50% bonus) or F, J, C, D, or Z fares in First/BusinessFirst (50% bonus).
Also note, if you have the Presidential Plus credit card and are already elite, you get an ADDITIONAL 25% RDM bonus (on top of existing bonus).  But only for OnePass elites.  Regular card holders are not entitled to this bonus.

OP, how important is the 100% to you?  As for exit row, assuming you're flying UA aircraft, as you're in Chicago, you will have free access to E+ from booking if you're Silver...

Do I have a target on my back? :P I'm not even active on this thread... ::)

FWIU the OP is looking to fly in order to earn EQMs/status on CO, and is trying to figure out which is the best option for him to do so.

There is a setting in forum profile under 'look and layout' called: "Don't show users' signatures." ;D

no, if you click that YOU wont have to suffer any longer. If everyone else clicks it, they wont have to suffer either.
Maybe we should add it to the n00b wiki ;)

I know what you meant (and how that feature works), I was just kidding around.
