internet Cafe/Kiosk Software (free?)
« on: February 02, 2017, 10:47:00 PM »
In my shul's office there is a computer that lately became sort of a public domain, so they would like to install a Internet cafe software, but hte problem is that all software's that I found were made to be the admin on one computer (server) & to that computer should be connected other computers (clients). I'm looking for a software that should only run on 1 computer (server & client should both be on the same computer).

If you know of anything, please reply or PM me. (Preferable would be a free software, but they are willing to pay a small fee if needed.)

Thanks in advance.

I saw this one in a shul for a computer used only for Otzer Hachuchma
http://www.inteset.com/secure-lockdown-multi-application-edition.html

Seemed to be pretty good (though they put the lock on an Admin account which gave me easily a way to bypass it...through a loophole)

The question really is what do you want to be allowed to do on the PC and what not.

Mainly limit access to the browser, but thinking also to limit access to the computer & charge a minimal fee (like ¢25 for 15 minutes, that way people shouldn't abuse it)

For locking down programs you can use the one I linked. Charging a fee you need the real Cafe software and - as you say - they usually work with a server and client. (but it might possibly be that you can set it up just with two user accounts on the same PC. Though I'm not sure.)

does this have the option for a few users, lets say user A can only use Microsoft word, & user B can also access the browser etc.

Hi everyone
I am running a internet cafe, and my friend send me the link to this thread, so I decided to open a user name on this forum.

The server and client communicate by the IP address, so it's not possible to have the software on 2 users

But you can install a 2nd virtual computer on the same computer with virtual software like VMware or vbox and run there Windows 7 and have the software server installed there.

That why you will have a new IP for the virtual machine.

PS I didn't test it but I think it will work

Could be an idea, but I have ZERO experience with raspberry PI.
