Recently I've been getting loads of PMs asking me about information that is already on the forums, or a clarification about something I posted. I feel like my PM box should be used for personal messages, and any questions about forum stuff should be posted on the forums. This is beneficial for the greater DDF community so that anyone who sees the posted question can answer it and any answers (mine or someone elses) can be seen by everyone as well. Do you agree?

I'd like to put something in my signature that would discourage people from sending me such PMs, but at the same time I want to be cordial in conveying this message, so I don't offend anyone's sensibilities... I'm sincerely HTH (Here To Help), and I'm eager to share with the community, but it's hard to manage a PM inbox with dozens of messages piling on each week. How do you suggest I phrase my signature? (or am I going about this the wrong way?)

Hmm...I used to have a similar message as my signature.
Definitely agree with your sentiments though...it's getting out of hand.

+1. This is like that suggestion that if the big email providers charged $0.001 per email (for senders not on your contact list) spam would exponentially decrease. It would obviously have to be standardized somehow.

Signature is officially limited to 100 characters, but I think I found a way around that

I can definitely feel AsherO's feelings here. But the other side of the coin is that people don't want to have themselves embarrassed by asking a question that might be taken as silly and making a fool of themselves (or getting LMGIFY's).

I previously suggested making a flame free board for noobies. They can ask any question they want without judgement, and someone here will hopefully be kind enough to point them to the right thread. As far as teaching them how to ask questions (dates, budgets, class etc.), there should be a well explained guide that every new member gets in their inbox. If they still don't get it (or more likely are too lazy to read it), they just get pointed back to the guide with a link.

If the mods are looking for someone to make a guide, I'll volunteer it.

We really need a n00b search guide. I bet many are searching from the searchbox within a thread, and when they don't find other threads with the info they are looking for, they post asking an obvious question.
