Hotel issues on Shabbos/Yom Tov

Never stayed in a hotel over Shabbos. How do people deal with these issues? I'm sure it comes up routinely with delayed flights etc.

I'm in a hotel this shabbos, and star in them regularly for shabbos. Most issues aren't issues when you think about them for a few minutes, and solutions can be super easy

According to the article they spent hours and hours consulting with poskim and couldn't find an acceptable solution and they were forced to take a financial hit. Are most hotels less technologicaly advanced than the one they were dealing with?

I'm not sure, but have run many shabbosim in hotels and a big part of it is trying to find a hotel without major issues. Non electronic door locks are almost impossible find these days at a decent hotel, but there are many easy fixes for that. Bottom line anything is possible when you find a hotel that's willing to accommodate.

Many times people don't even realize there are sensors, sometimes the changes aren't that discernable right away. Also almost every hotel I stayed in that had sensors had a control pad hidden somewhere in the room with an override, although many times the override only lasts a brief period big time like 12-24 hrs.

Doesn't a simple piece of tape block the sensor?

Depends on the hotel, usually not that simple.

I remember doing it at the embassy suites in Parsippany NJ. Buts it's been a few years back, I guess it's not always that simple.

Emkay, my guess is you are talking about a personal trip to a hotel for shabbos? Most organizations/programs would avoid hotels of that nature

Yup.
Gotcha. I don't often spend shabbos in hotels without a program, but I have scouted out hotels for programs and run into these issues. Bottom line is, when the hotel is looking to accommodate, life is a lot easier. We once had them replace the sensors on the urinals, with actual flush handles, just for a weekend.
