I was thinking of that but I had no leverage! The best they would counter offer would be to match it and what would I say? "No I'd rather pay the same price at the other place?" Also, I was negotiating on my shvers behalf and he wanted the deal done right then and there :P

No leverage? You had ALL the leverage you needed!

This guy was about to see a sale walk right out the door in front of his eyes. Worst case scenario? You come back and say you'll take his matched offer if the other guy is full of hot air.

9.5/10 that guy will beat the offer.

Again its possible but most of the times they'll say "If you commit NOW we'll match it otherwise no deal'  Try to come back afterwards, they know they have the upper hand and they'll insist on the original price. I've had that situation many times before. Anyways like I said before I was negotiating on my shvers behalf and he has no patience for this shtick.. he just wanted the sale done.

They were quoting me 21k for stripped 2.5 w/o leather so with leather it would be at least 4k more for the SL and Convenience  Plus package so were looking at a difference of 3-4k. Dan, whats your cars got as far as the add-on packages?
2.5SL with moonroof, heated seats, fog lights, etc.
They can quote you anything, but you could've negotiated down to what I paid.

Were you able to negotiate without a real quote from another dealer? Also do you feel i could've negotiated the sr- v6 lower than 28k? Theres gotta be a point where it just wont be worth it for them to do the sale...

I had real quotes from other dealers and bounced them back and forth for some time.
No idea about the V6, it was so overpriced I didn't bother.

Wow....I guess I would've had time to play the game I could've gotten it down but my father in law wanted to finish the deal by the first dealer so thats what happens! ::) Otherwise the car looks awesome and the mpg even for the v6 aint too bad! 23/27. One of the sales guys was telling me that he was getting 40 mpg on his 2.5s on the highway 8)

I find that my 2.5SL under-promised on highway mileage and over-promised on city.

Same here with my sonata.

But from what it seems all city mpg is an estimate based on how they tested the car and its always off... I wonder where they test it  ::)

A city with no stop signs or traffic lights would be my guess :P

Dan - You should seriously do this as a service. I'm sure many (possibly myself) would be willing to pay you $500 to get them an offer $5000 lower than what regular dealers are charging!

I'm sure its a little more then a single phone call so $500 aint much incentive.

Besides, when you take upon yourself these type of things, it becomes more of a headache then anything else. (Not referring to you, just in general)

Oh and also they only take a maximum of 3k per cc and only visa/mastercard.

So if you have a dozen Visa/MCs that earn rewards they'll let you charge $3k on each one? Not bad, $36,000 in CC spending could be worth quite a bit (e.g. on the new BA offer it'd be over 150k miles (including the signup bonus and a companion pass! :)

Are your sure it'll be worth his time for $500?

I understand that it takes time and not just one phone call. However, even if it takes 5 hours that's still a great incentive. The question is if he has time to spare to do that.
I'm not sure how much you guys make per hour, or how long it takes to get a price down by $5,000 (lets assume 5 hours), but $100 per hour working full time (9 to 5 x5 days x 52 weeks= 2080 hours) would be a $208,000 salary!

Are you serious about this offer? I would do it for you and take a percentage of your savings (I would get a price for you and you would go down to the dealer)
