Making small charges on Chase Freedom
« on: May 13, 2011, 03:17:54 PM »
The chase freedom card gives you a 10 point bonus per purchase if you also have a Chase checking account.
My question is, will chase give me a problem if I make a lot of small charges using the freedom card? I know Dan has talked about using it for $0.01 gas pumps.  I was thinking more about buying 100 Amazon $0.15 eGift cards instead of making 1 $15 amazon purchase.  I know its kinda annoying to make all these purchases but I want to try out this method of getting 1015 points instead of 25.

So will amazon or chase give me a problem with this?  I can spread it out over some time so that they dont suspect fraud.

Should I be expecting a call from Chase about all these 0.15 charges? And what do you suggest I tell them

I got a call after 18 pumps or so at Sam's, told them it was me and all was fine.

Took about 3 minutes to place the first 16 orders and redeem them.  Not too bad.  Havent received a phone call yet but I am going to break for the day.

Any other interesting ways that people have made small purchases to rack up points on freedom?

You probably never will get that call. These are low risk charges in their eyes. Multiple gas charges are very high risk. keep chuggin, there is nothing bad about this because I've done it before many times with multiple CVS charges for under .20 and never got calls 2 years ago.

I have bought plenty of small GC (0.15) from Amazon, and no flagging or such whatsoever, maybe the cc company will raise some issues, for so many small purchases.

I am at 50 purchases of the 0.15 eGC so far.  I'm going to wait a few days and see if I hear from amazon or Chase.
Meanwhile I have spent $7.50 and earned 507 points which is worth $5.07.  Its like getting 66% off everything from amazon.

If you also have a Sapphire Preferred you should be able to transfer those points to anyone's Continental account which is worth 1.5-1.7 cpm.  So you're looking at basically free (or better than free) amazon money with 0.15 eGCs.

This is only for checking account? Will it work with an account opened with the 25k CO promo? Is it worth $.30/month donations for 300 points?

Also, anyone know if chase's $500 minimum on direct deposit is also for college checking?

What does 'also' a sapphire card mean? The op was referring to the freedom card, so how does the freedom help the sapphire? Thanks

The OPs gotta realize that it isn't worth it risking his relationship with Chase and/or Amazon for a few dollars. It's one thing to do this to hit the required 5-10 transactions a month, 50 of these a month and I'm sure the red flags will go up pretty quickly.

Why not try calling chase and tell them exactly what you are doing, and have them notate your account so it won't get closed. And even if it does it will be easily re-opened because they will take one look at the memo on account. Its totally legit so why not.

Legit? I'm not sure they'd be happy about it, i.e. they offer to waive account fees in return for using your card, hoping you'll make it a habit of using your card...

Cool. Its like amex, in the sense that if you have a zync and gold, then all points (even those earned from zync) can be transferred out to FF programs. I didn't know it works that way with ultimate rewards points. Sounds pretty lucrative...
