i made a purchase with my SP card overseas and i see the charge in USD online. is there anyway i can check how much was charged from the currency of the country?
i wasnt there when they swiped, i gave them the CC number and they put it in manually and i dont have a receipt. i think i was overcharged a few dollars

Check your statement (you can view a PDF of it when logged into your account at Chase.com), it should have the amount charged in the original currency, as well as the exchange rate.

+1 It only shows up on the statement.

If it sounds like you got ripped off they probably charged you in USD.

I think Dan is suggesting they converted to USD using their own (or their CC processing company's) exchange rate, and charged your SP in USD after that lousy rate, hence the unexpected amount increase.

It's becoming an increasingly popular practice, it happened to us in Thailand and I made them void and recharge it.

Got it.
My understanding was that Dan said that based on the fact that it showed up online as USD charges.
Sorry, and it wouldn't hurt if he would take the time and explain that for me so I don't have to wait for the executive advocate to explain it.

how would you be able to tell its a "dynamic conversion" does it appear that way on the statement, or I'll have to start calculating every overseas transaction?

IME (in Israel), the only places that attempted it were tourist places such as hotels, car rental etc. and they asked me first.

indeed, I believe they have to ask first. And sometimes certain sites have that option, they ask you but in tiny hidden words, to click if you DONT want them to convert...
