we rely on peoples experiences, not on t&c's. It might help to read the forums instead of asking a million q's.

Can someone please clarify this? My wife was rejected for the SP MC because she already has the SP Visa. The CSR said she could get both but she won't get the promotional bonus.

1.Should I just ignore her?
2. should I transfer her visa credit line to the MC or get both?
3. If I transfer the credit line do I first need to transfer the points so she doesn't lose them?

You can have both and you will still get the bonus, it's programmed into the card nothing the CSR says will change that.

question about sapphire preferred churning
« Reply #1627 on: August 27, 2012, 03:46:20 AM »
hello deal gedolim (no disrespect intended to real gedolim, obviously)

Question (excuse the noobiness, i'm a pretty good deal guy but new to this whole CC points thing) - i had a chase sapphire preferred visa and a preferred MC (applied for the MC, got rejected because i already had the visa, offered to close the visa and get the MC instead, they agreed and issued me the MC, but then didn't close the visa).

Anyway, the visa was coming up on 1 year so i called and said i wanted to cancel, they asked why and i said i didn't want to pay the fee. We had a whole conversation about "isn't it worth $95", etc. and i said i had other cards that gave the benefits and didn't charge fees. No offer to waive the fee or give me some UR or anything, they just closed the account. (obviously before i called i moved all the UR rewards points to the mastercard)

So now i have a preferred MC. Should i
1) apply tomorrow for a preferred visa?
2) wait a while? if so, how long?

and after i apply, should i expect to have to deal with reconsideration? if so, what's the strategy?

thanks in advance!

Something to keep in mind when closing a credit card is move the credit line to another card with the same bank(that way it won't hurt your credit when closing). This wouldn't apply to Amex Plat and the like since there is no credit line.

Did you get the sign up bonus again for the mc? also how did you keep the points from the visa did you transfer them to your freedom card or something?

The question is if they'll match this. I just applied yesterday.

Just got the match to $2k spend, now to see for the double dip...

I think the idea is to SM after the 2K spend requirement is met so you can get the points added manually by a CSR and then spend another 1K and get the bonus again automatically.

Yea, I realized after I sent the SM that I should have waited, I had sent an SM to get a match for UA and just shot off another one for the SP without thinking. Oh well, we'll see if anything comes out of it.

After he spends 2K he can SM again to get the points and then keep spending.

That's what I'm hoping happens, that even though I got the match it won't be automatic and I'll have to request it and then still be able to get the automatic bonus after $3k.
