@ShmulyG And they just let you reapply? I close it today and tomorrow reapply and get 40,000 points? Do they give people a hassle?

I tend to wait a bit in between.

Does the same thing work for the Ink?
Is there a time limit to reapply to the Starwoods Amex

Sorry if these questions were answered already but this is a very long thread so here goes:

I have a Sapphire Preferred Visa. It sounds like people here churn these pretty regularly (for the purpose of getting more points and avoiding annual fee) by switching it to a MC and then reapplying for the Visa (which requires closing the MC to get approved). My question is, does this affect the 7% bonus points? When discussing where to do spending Dan is always mentioning things like 2.14% on dining with SP but if you are constantly churning them, wouldn't you lose out on that bonus or will it post anyway even if the card is closed?

My other question is how to go about churning this.
There seems to be a number of ways to do this.
1) Wait until the Annual Fee hits and then ask to downgrade to Freedom and then reapply for SP a few months later.
2) Close the card (move the CL to Freedom) and then reapply a few months later.
3) SM to switch SP Visa to SP WMC and then reapply for the Visa.

Which of these 3 options is preferable and how long should the wait time be before reapplying?

No need to keep the card open all year.
2) Close the card (move the CL to Freedom) and then reapply a few months later.
You don't need to wait a few months.
3) SM to switch SP Visa to SP WMC and then reapply for the Visa.
1 or 2 should be your choices. there is no set time to wait. You can reapply right after you change the card to a MC or move the CL.

Which of these 3 options is preferable and how long should the wait time be before reapplying?

Thanks.

What about my first question about the 7% bonus, do I forfeit that by closing the original card?

I believe you can try and find a direct link to that card or apply for the Visa and SM/Call to have them switch it over. I think the difference between a regular MC and WMC is the amount of credit they give you. Someone please CMIIW.

Not sure what you mean by that... the 7% due to you since the last time you got a 7% bonus (or since you opened the card if you never got the bonus) will be forfeited.
