No, it's because you're trying to change from Sapphire to Freedom.  You could have downgraded to a free Sapphire card, or perhaps changed your Sapphire Visa to a Sapphire MC.

Can't you "downgrade" a Sapphire Visa to a Freedom Visa?

Trying to switch from MC to V or trying to get the Visa as a new card?

SM to ask them to open the Visa by closing the MC.

Not if you have them switch the card over. If you apply for another card, you can get the bonus (IME).

So I switched over mine and my wife's Sapphire cards. Applied for SP Visa as part of my wife's AOR, and got a letter from Chase stating that they noticed I already have an SP. They are saying call to see that we are meeting your CC needs.

I realized that the Visa version is still showing in the account.

How should I handle this? I don't mind getting a different card for the pull, but I'd hate to strike out.

I remember when a coke was a nickel, and you could buy VRs in OD.

If i am understanding correctly, you had the SP Visa and had them switch to a MC. Now you had reapplied for a SP Visa and they sent you a letter?
If that is the case, you can tell them some story how you don't really need the MC anymore and if they can close it to approve the Visa. If they do that, you can get the bonus again.

So I would need to close the MC to get the Visa? Or is the letter just because the SP Visa number is still showing in my account?

I believe so.

I had just applied for the SP Visa while i had the SP MC. They denied me because i already have a SP card. I told them to clos the MC and approve the Visa.

How long did it take for the SP Visa to fall off your online accounts after converting to WMC?

I have a closed CC account from Chasing thats still showing over 2 years past closure.  You can hide the inactive account...

I SM'd asking about why the Visa still shows up.  They said its still active. But it's clearly not, it just mirrors the WMC.

Are you sure it's not? Try swiping it, you may be in for a surprise.

If you switch, you can avoid the AF.
Personally i transfered mine to my Freedom until i decide what i want to do with the points. If you know where you want to use your points, transfer them to the hotel/airline program, if not the Freedom can hold the points for you.
I do believe your points stay for a certain period of time if you cancel, not sure how long though.

IMO, i would move the CL to a different Chase card and then apply for the UMPE.
