Don't know if this has been posted but they're stopping to give extra points on travel.

https://www.chase.com/ccp/index.jsp?pg_name=ccpmapp/shared/marketing/page/ultimate-rewards-sapphire-preferred-vs-annoucement&jp_cmp=cc/94049/ema/EM03610/Body_image_1
It has been posted and it's not true. They're only discontinuing the 3'rd point you get when booking travel through Chase.

I have one Chase card that I never use. Would it be better to close the account and transfer the credit limit to another card before applying for a new one? Or should I just leave it as is and then just offer to transfer if I need to call recon. I'm getting a bit up there in Chase cards as I now have 5 Chase cards (including 1 Ink Plus) with 2 of them opened in the last 60 days.

You have more leverage whan you offer to close a card to open a newone, So keep the card & close it by recon. IMHO

Can i apply for a new SP even though i have one open? Or does it need to be closed to churn...
The one i have open is my first  credit card i ever had (3 1/2 years ago) so i wouldn't want to close it... but if i Downgrade it to a regular sapphire will it be considered as the having the same cars open?

You can have the sapphire together with the sp. You got the sp as your first card :o

Yeh i got lucky :)
I know I can have them at the same time, my question is 1) if i Downgrade will it still show on my credit as the card i got 3 years ago or a new card. 2) must i Downgrade?  Or can i keep it open and apply again.
Thanks

You can apply whenever you want, just understand that the representatives will see and will probably ask you why. Be prepared with answers.

I believe it will be the same card on your CR but someone else should confirm that.
When I applied, I downgraded to the regular card and then applied that day. The app was rejected bc I had the same product already, which was simply an issue because I applied before the card officially downgraded in their system. (The next day's HUCA proved successful.) It also told me that you cannot have an SP open and get approved for another SP. But I'm sure someone here will chime in and say, "I have 2 open."

I'm sure this is known to all, but news to me - they're switching all the sapphire preferred to chip and pin, in the process they're switching from MC to Visa with no optout option, which leaves my chase united as my last MC standing (from Chase).

I got "caught" in that with my Sapphire card. I also tried calling to switch one of my Ink cards and they said they couldn't do it, but it would happen automatically at some point. Not sure how true that is.

Certain stores may only accept one. Potentially a little easier to get the card again if you had one and said you needed the other.
