Re: How to churn Sapphire Preferred?
« Reply #1740 on: November 12, 2012, 02:40:18 PM »
There's a way to try for all three, but you have to get really lucky twice...

Try to get a retention bonus of 5k or more to mitigate the annual fee. Then, try to get another SP without closing this one (will be harder to do now that there's no WMC linky).

In any case, it'll take some pretty neat acrobatics to get another SP while keeping this one, and get the signup bonus to post beofre 12/31/2012 (so you earn the signup bonus on those 40k as well).

Thanks - did you mean so I earn the 7% bonus on those 40k as well? Why 12/31 - is that because the 7% is on earn during the calendar year?

More Questions
Is it possible to take a retention bonus and then HUCA and convert down to a non-preferred to still avoid the fee. Would they take back the 5k.

If i convert to non-preferred do I lose the 7% from earn generated while it was in preferred status? I assume yes otherwise this is my easy answer.

I converted to MC and now I plan to apply for visa 40K.

Numbered these for easier replying.

1. Yes, that's what I meant.

2. No, but I'd wait a few days, get other stuff notated in between, and/or cancel via SM just to be safe.

3. Your assumption is correct, you would lose the dividend.

4. Good luck!

Can I still match to the 2k spend? I just got my SP WMC in the mail yesterday.
same question here, mine is on the way in the mail.
Well, I just tried and was flat out rejected.  :-[ :'(

"Dear Galitzyaner,

I certainly understand you wish to have the 40,000 bonus
points for $2,000 spend your Chase Sapphire account.

Regretfully, I am unable to honor your request for 4,000
bonus points as a sign up offer for $2,000 in spend in the
first 93 days from the account open date. Further would
like to inform that, as per the offer on your account, you
have received 40,000 Chase Sapphire bonus points after
spending $3,000.00 in purchases. These points will post
after meeting the spending criteria in one to two billing
cycle.

I sincerely apologize; I am unable to meet your
expectations in this matter.

Tell them your colleague got in a bank and that you are a longtime customer.

Did you ask for a supervisor to respond, explain you're a longtime customer, etc?
You can also PUTPAC.

Yes I specifically asked that a supervisor respond and even when I told them that there's no invitation code cuz I saw it at the bank they kept telling me sorry... I don't think anyone ever got matched over the phone so it's not worth trying as those people are usually the most clueless...

We reviewed the application you submitted in October 2012
and have confirmed that you will receive 40,000 points
after you have spent $3,000 within the first 90 days the
account is open.

If you are unable to exceed the $3,000 spending threshold
within 90 days of the account open date but you have spent
at least $2,000, please contact us after December 30,
2012, at which time we would be happy to add the 40,000
points.

We are unable to add the 40,000 points to your account
before December 30, 2012 because you have the potential to
spend $3,000 by December 30, 2012 in which case the 40,000
points will post automatically.

Thank you for being our customer. We appreciate your
business.

If you have any further questions, please reply using the

Sincerely,

Dawn Stuhr

That's not recent. And not a phone call so means nothing to me. Unless someone who applied in November can post their experience.

Meh, that match was done in November.  Whether the app date is Oct or Nov doesn't matter, though the SM agent (and your notes history) obviously matters.

+1. I'm very curious as to what that means.
Could it be that in the notes is written "proprietor of DD, special treatment"?! ;)
