Where did he report this? (So I don't bother you with Q's.) Just kept it open and applied again?
I know him so he sends me his reports that he wants posted 8)

Newbie question... Is it sustainable (for someone with excellent credit) to downgrade SP to non-preferred, wait the 30 days, re-apply for SP, get the signup bonus, year after year after year? Will they eventually catch on? Will there be any repercussions?

Sustainable? Well after a few times of doing that they may catch on and ask why do you keep closing and opening and you better not answer to get the signup bonus. Repercussions? Like what?

If you downgrade it you need not wait at all, tho 30 days is recommended.

Hey, Super. Continuing our conversation from another thread... can I downgrade my SP into a 2nd Freedom? I wouldn't mind having multiples of that card.

You probably need to wait a year after having the Sapphire before doing that. They may also ask why you want the 2nd freedom.

What is an acceptable reason? "I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep the card open- but now I want to?" Repercussion : black listed from a card / chase / -- If such a thing even exists...?! Thank you for your response Super!!!!! U guys are "super" helpful   ;D

Such a thing definitely does exist and it happens everyday. When Chase shuts down an account, it can often mean losing all of the points that one has accumulated. No joke. There is a thread on Chase A/A (adverse action) that will tell you what the high risk behaviors are.

I believe not. Travel is airfare, hotels, rentals, etc. Not luggage

I have definitely read about this-- nothing on the wiki mentions (at least directly), opening and closing the same card over a long period of time. I'm not talking about increased spikes in spending, etc. I'm talking about having the card for 1 year, closing the card, waiting the necessary churning period (30 days?), and then re-opening the same card, avoiding the annual fee AND getting signup bonus... would this warrant an A/A after several years?

non-preferred you can do right away but for the Freedom you may have to wait a year. CMIIW.

I personally would do the Freedom if I had the option.
