So what exactly does pre approved mean? Nothing?

Pre-approved means they should approve you (but can still find excuses to deny you).

When I worked for a CC company years ago "Preapproved" only meant that the card issuer bought thousands of names and addresses of people within certain credit profiles they requested (ie- no missed payments for 24 months, more than 2 cards w/3years history or whatever the criteria was they requested from the bureaus). By they time they recieve that data and the time you get the offer could be months later.

So my info was likely gathered before I applied for the BA card last month.  Thanks for the explanation

Was it Sapphire preferred or just the regular sapphire.

That's what it meant, until regulation required them to call that pre-selected. Now they actually have to have a credit criteria that you're approved for, and so long as it hasn't gotten worse from when they mailed you the app, they have to honor it. At least that's how I understand
 it.

Of course. Companies make a mint (no pun intended) using your information to push offers your direct. As someone put it so poignantly: To Google, advertisers are the customer, you (the user) is the product (being sold).

What do you mean 'why they bother?', maybe they're giving you a reason to earn another 50k.

What do you mean 'why bother?', how about 25k (or perhaps 50k if all you got was the Sapphire non-Preferred) more points :)
i think he meant why bother with the 25k offer when there is a 50k offer

So you are saying that I will be approved assuming that my credit didnt change in the last few days?

If your offer says pre-approved, call them up and ask them what it means.

Took the plunge..........no instant approval. Then again, I have the CO, UA and BA cards all applied for in the last 3 months. My new philosophy is to always apply.
Update: I called  1-888-270-2127 (reconsideration)  today to check the status. Was told (not unexpectedly) that it was declined because of 'too many recent applications' and 'too many cards not open for a sufficient amount of time.' Asked if she could reconsider and she asked 'why I was applying for so many cards.' My answer was I travel frequently and prefer to collect miles with multiple programs to diversify. We then went over some income details and she determined she cannot extend new credit but perhaps can allocate from one of my other Case cards. I agreed and she is 'resubmitting' the application and there will be an update sometime next week.

Getting there.......

You may be able to call but she'll need to be there to give the OK.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Can ultimate rewards points be transferred between spouses?

Yes, according to this Chase PDF:

Quote
Account-to-Account Points Transfers: Points transfers are not currently available. We
will notify you when you may transfer points to other Ultimate Rewards accounts. At
that time, you may transfer points to any other eligible credit card or debit card with
Ultimate Rewards. Transfers may only be used to combine points belonging to the same
individual or business in the Program; or for the purpose of enabling spouses or domestic
partners to combine points earned in their respective names. If the transferee’s or your
credit card account(s) or checking account(s), as applicable, are in default at the time of
the transfer, Chase will not make the transfer. Once points are transferred, they cannot be
credited back.

But why would you need to do that if you can just deposit them into any CO/BA account? AFAIK the names don't need to match.

There is a 1,000 point minimum transfer.

Thanks for the info, I would need it when I downgrade my card but my wife still has hers and I'm not ready to transfer to CO.

I need it too because I have UR points through another card that doesnt allow transfers to CO and my wife just applied for sapphire preferred so if I can transfer my points to her then they can all go to continental if/when she gets approved.
