i spoke to chase once about this. you must be eligible to refer a friend. your account must be in some sort of standing (not sure the requirements.)

I tried referring last week and the e-mail never arrived. So I just applied anyway as I wanted to get a simple sapphire/freedom 2bm in before the freedom bonus ended. Hopefully I can SM chase explaining what happened for the 5k - anyone have experience with that?

Had a similar story. The link from the referral email didn't work, called in and the rep credited me 2,500 and said to call back for the remaining 2,500 once the person is approved.

Anyway, my wife had a Sapphire preferred that she downgraded to regular Sapphire about 2 years ago. Can she take out another Sapphire Preferred and get the 45k bonus and if so, does she need to cancel the regular non-preferred Sapphire card first?

She can get another Preferred with the bonus and need not close out the other one.

I would wait 30 days.
