Citi payment question
« on: May 15, 2011, 01:08:08 AM »
(Mods: Please help me out with a proper title for this one, I couldn't think of anything.)

This question is specifically about a Citi credit card:
Last month's statement has closed and during the current cycle I have returned and gotten credit for stuff that was bought in the past cycle. I've also returned merchandise that was purchased during this current cycle.
I want to pay the full statement balance as to not incur any interest charges.
The question is, which (if any) credits can be counted towards the statement amount, having to pay just the difference?
Again, ALL returns have been made during the current cycle, AFTER the statement has closed.

P.S. I know, for example, with Amex Starwood you can count them all towards your payment.

Amex does indeed show you what you must pay to be considered "paid in full."
With citi, i have called them and asked how much i need to pay in order to be considered in full.

And what did they say?
They calculated the amount due based on the credits posted to the account.

During what cycle did those credits post?

Did you read the OP?
Oh, you want to go that route? (thx btw for the PM re the citi card).
Yes, i read the OP. My response was that you can call citi (a 3 minute phone call [gasp as dan would say]) and ask them what the total amount you need to pay is. I believe my situation was the current cycle as well, in fact it for sure was now that i think about it. A 3 minute phone call could have been made a long time ago instead of this back and forth and you would have your answer :D
I was just trying to help. You're welcome ;D

Oh, and obviously the credit posted in the current cycle. Otherwise they would be on the statement.

I trust DD members way more than Citi agents.
That's exactly why I didn't pick up the phone.
Thanks. Now I got the answer.

Yup. I was even advised to pay an annual fee that was going to (eventually) be credited to me (since I switched the card type).

I recently had an experience with Chase where the returns did count towards the payment, but there weren't any charges during the new cycle.

"Going to eventually" forsure you have to pay towards it, unless it gets credited before the due date (which is the OP question).

Update:
I spoke to another rep. at Citi and she naturally told me that all I have to pay is the difference, and that my credits do count.
She also put a note on my account stating that she advised me that I won't be incurring any finance charges.

I'm taking the plunge...
It's been a very very long time since I paid any interest BH...
If any interest generates, I will be able to find out 3 days after i make my payment which is when the statement closes..

Wouldnt worry about. Ive never had a problem getting citi to reverse finance charges when i was in the right.
