what would you do? (macbook repairs)
« on: May 15, 2011, 01:10:08 AM »
I got my macbook repaired- I spent 450$ got all new parts. It worked for abt a day and then stopped working, we went back to apple store (abt 20 min drive to closest one) and they said "oh that beeping sound means the harddrive isn't connected well"  so they fixed it and it worked again. Hooray.
Problem is it worked for abt 2 weeks and now doesn't work again. Do I fight the charge on amex? Go back to apple and demand a new laptop? Or anything else?? What would u guys do?

Not under AMEX warranty year I take it?

1. Go back and see what they say.
2. Email Steve Jobs.
3. Chargeback.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Not even close it was given to my wife from work almost 3 yrs ago.
It was under apple warranty but it had "water damage" so they didn't cover it.

So, i guess you are down to these options
1. Go back and see what they say.
2. Email Steve Jobs.

But seriously, can you explain what parts were replaced and what the current symptoms are?

I don't remember what parts, they said all.
The symptom is that when u turn it on it just gives three very loud beeps over and over.

My experience is that the continuous beeps on macbook means ram is defective. Try replacing

+1, same from googling the beeps. Although it could be the RAM bays, which could be as extensive as requiring a motherboard replacement, hence the question:

can you explain what parts were replaced?

lol! I take it your not an Apple hippie?  :P
But in all seriousness i would first call the apple store and then take it back and demand a replacement. Once with an ipod I hocked them so much that the manager just gave me a refurbed one that worked fine

Nope, I'm not an Apple hippie, or any other hippie for that case ;D

As per the OP (see the first few posts) the system is ~3 years old, I don't think any amount of hocking would help to get a new system. I do think if you paid Apple $450 to fix it and it has the same problems two weeks later, they should either fix it properly oir refund the money.

K so they took it to look at for a few hours to see what the issue is- hopefully it will work out- I think I will fight the charge.

The end result was they claim they didn't find anything wrong with it- when I went to pick it up, I used one of the macbooks there to login to my amex acct and deny that charge :-)
As far as laptop goes, hoping it doesn't go into shock again

So you've got an intermittent problem with it now? Those are hard to troubleshoot...

I have NO CLUE what's wrong that is what's so frustrating- I know it is going to happen again but apple said there is nothing wrong.

So you've only had the beeping once since the initial repair?

Twice- first time we brought it in the guy said yeah that means the "" is not in properly let me go put it in, he went and did that and it worked.
Brought it home and abt 1 week later started up again, and that was when I posted what would u do.
