I had better luck then you... Apple replaced my 2008 MBP for a brand new 2011 MBP yesterday free of charge, and they gave me a new 1yr warrenty...

I had problems with some flickering on my screen, I sent in for repair (I had 3 yr repair) and problem continued after it came back. I called them, they escalated to a level two service provider who saw that they replaced my logic board 3 times in the past three years and said bc of the inconvenience they'll replace the whole thing for me.. said they can mail me a new one or I can go into the store..

I figured in the store I have better chances of getting a brand new one, whereas if they send me, I may end up with a refurbished one similar to mine... I was right!
