I can't remember which card it was (I believe a Visa of some sort). But had a similar situation about 2 yrs ago and when I submitted the claim they didn't cover taxis - only hotel food and sundries. They pointed to the fine print in the policy that didn't list transportation as covered when it did list food, lodging and sundries -  even though there was a general statement that it would cover necessary costs...

Can he double dip and use travel insurance from another card if say the hotel was paid on it? or car rental?

I know most cards only cover if you pay part or all of your airfare on it.

I'll let everyone if they ended up covering it. we already submitted the claim form for the reimbursement, and now we're just waiting.
