interesting. the younger crowd has been looking for a way to become usaa (certified) members for a while now, ever since they stopped letting new regular checking accounts for non-military

Requires having USAA checking account with $1,000/month direct deposit (didn't test, but many times PayPal or Cash App deposits will count for such requirements - I do them regularly with another bank to avoid fees).

Without direct deposit you get 1.5% cash back.

Pre-crackdown is irrelevant if you are a current joint member on a bank account. I thought you're looking for DP's if they'll let a new nonmilitary customer open this account. No?

Exactly. That's what I thought the point of these DP's are for, can a new person open this type of account and become a member by doing so. What are you looking for in DP's?
