What is the return date on your ticket?

officially they require 6 month passport but with a return ticket its probably not a problem, you might want to call the airline to see if they (the airline) will make you problems.

is the air line the one who should give me the problems or the passport control?

It is the airlines responsibility if you got to Israel when you weren't allowed (they'll have to foot the bill for the deportation). So you really need to clear both.

You should definitely make sure you have a copy of your return ticket for passport control.

Do you get the miles for the flight back?

I heard of people not being let into the country in Israel. I would not take a risk and fly to Israel with a passport not valid as required. Most times you will not have a issue, but you really want a small chance of them putting you on the next flight back?

I know someone that was turned down (by Delta in ATL) trying to fly to TLV with a passport that had less than 6 months of validity. If yours has less than 2 months of validity I would say that the chances of any airline allowing you to fly are pretty slim. There plenty of places that can get you a new passport by Friday so why take the chance?

Pesach, going to Israel.

JFK-DME-TLV on 4/4 Carrier: UN  :-[
Returning on 4/15

Anyone know if I'll have a problem flying with a passport that expires in the second half of September 2012?

Plenty of time to get it renewed in time, why not just do it?

Not sure why you quoted me....

But that said, technically, your passport needs to be valid for at least six months past your dates of travel (which by the way, makes kids passports in the US a real ripoff, as they are only 'valid' for 4 1/2 years, minus the amt of time you get it before you need to go away to be safe that you'll have it in time...so get it 6 months in advance, and it's only really 'valid' for four years)

I wouldn't call 4 1/2 weeks "plenty of time" when dealing with the US Passport Office

You can get an in person appointment when you have future travel coming that is coming too soon to to rely on the expedited mail service - and you get your passport either same day or a few days later (they may have changed it since I got mine same day).  You pay an additional fee, and also waste the better part of a day.  Not sure where you are -- the closest one to me is in Connecticut (Manhattan you should try to avoid).  There are also expediters that you can pay a fee on top of the Passport Office fees, and they bring the applications in and do the waiting for you (although I've not used one since before 9/11, so not sure if that's changed).

I would suggest dealing with it now rather than potentially being denied boarding.  It's not a guarantee that you'll have trouble travelling with the current passport -- but definitely a risk.

State Dept is calling a 2-3 week door to door turnaround time if you pay for Overnight Mail in both directions these days.  Should be OK if you get moving.

+1 I just did a standard renewal and got it in less than 4 Weeks. I think you'd be plenty safe with an expedited which is expected in two Weeks. I don't think you need to spend your time our money to go to CT.

Point of reference, applied for a passport at the library for my son on 02/27 and received it back on 03/10.
