Point of reference, applied for a passport at the library for my son on 02/27 and received it back on 03/10.

Wow thats fast. On another not I am in the process of getting a Passport for my daughter, and when I got all the documentation ready I was flabbergasted when I got to the Post Office in Brooklyn and they told me that all the Brooklyn Post Offices only do Passports now by appointment only. Seriously?? You guys are that busy? So I called the number last Tuesday and left a message for someone to call me to schedule a time and have yet to hear from them.
The quicker we abolish the USPS the better off we'd be.

Just drive to queens (or better yet, move out of Brooklyn), it'll be faster

Don't live in Brooklyn. Queens has odd hours too and Lawrence has appointments only as well.

Fyi; they provide an email address to "expedite" an appointment...

brooklyn_passport@usps.gov

You'd be lucky if it doesn't bounce back, as it did to me..

Now back to the OP topic, my friend was to travel to TLV (from JFK) this Sunday with LH via FRA, was turned away due to his passport expiring less than 6 months, on his way home he checked online, it opened a B/F seat on UA90, he changed his res, rerouted his GPS to EWR... Checked in thru a kiosk, and is now having a great time in Occupied Palestinian Territory...

I'm probably missing something, but what does a library have to do with passports?

At least in CLE they process them just like USPS does and it's a whole lot more pleasant.

Learn something new everyday. I wonder if they do that on the East Coast...

In Westchester, the best place to go is the County Clerk's Office -- if there is a line, it's never a line of more than one person.  It takes longer to park and go through security (it's in the courthouse building) than it does to submit the passport app.

One of my kids passports is valid 6 months from date of arrival in Israel, but not 6 months from date of departure. ( a few days off). I did some research There's conflicting info whether that's good.

The US govt has this to say. I think its plainly wrong.
http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1064.html
Although a passport valid for six months from the date of entering Israel is not required by the Government of Israel, airlines may prevent boarding if a traveler does not have at least six months validity on his or her passport. Please check with your airline directly.

An israeli consulate says this- Anyone entering Israel needs a passport valid for at least six months from the intended date of entering Israel.http://boston.mfa.gov.il/index.php/en/component/content/article/47-general-information/516-visa-application
You'd think that would be accurate.

This site says you need it for 6 months from date of leaving. At least that  airline required it. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13342877/ns/travel-travel_tips/t/when-your-valid-passport-isnt-really-valid/

As mentioned before-why not just renew?  its a big deal since you want to get it renewed early enough to be sure you have it in time so its really only good for about 4 years.

Anyone have anything more on this?
