My friend has a flight tommorow evening NY-TLV returning in a week with a passort expiring may 19th. What's the chance he can get through?

It's possible to get through, but it's entirely within Israel's right to deny him entry. Definitely should have taken care of this this past week. Not worth the risk.

Extremely unlikely that he'll have a problem.

I know someone that was turned down (by Delta in ATL) trying to fly to TLV with a passport that had less than 6 months of validity. If yours has less than 2 months of validity I would say that the chances of any airline allowing you to fly are pretty slim. There plenty of places that can get you a new passport by Friday so why take the chance?

How do u know about the 2 month rule?

How much in advance can you renew a passport?

Helpful tip:

I am renewing my passport...I see that someone mentioned that he paid to get pages added to his passport so please be advised that when renewing or first time for adult or minor there is a box to check off on the form if you would like to receive the 52 page passport "for those who frequently travel abroad," versus the standard 32 page. No proof of frequent travel is required and the option is available at no additional cost.

If you need to add some pages to a current passport that you are not renewing you will need to shell out $82 bucks, so even if you do not think you will need it since you barley travel, who cares? just check the box for the free expanded passport so that just in case you start flying a lot you will be good to go.

(Just wondering, since I do not plan on leaving the U.S. any time soon, I will be renewing through the mail -unexpedited. Suppose while the passport is away I have an urgent need to leave is there anything to do?)

And then carry a book with you every time you travel 😜

I've had the expanded version. It's pretty nuts, but yeah it's worth it.

Fyi; they provide an email address to "expedite" an appointment...

brooklyn_passport@usps.gov

You'd be lucky if it doesn't bounce back, as it did to me..

I know this is old but as I just spent some time finding this and this post is misleading i'll correct it?

The corect email for a passport appontment in brooklyn is  brooklyn_passports@usps.gov

Any recent data about getting turned away at the airport for having a passport expiring within 6 months?

I was denied boarding a UA flight to israel a couple months ago with 4 months left on my passport.
Even self check in didn't work.

I need a new passport and i see the option to get an expanded for no charge. So why not? You cant add pages for free anymore once its issued.

My thinking is that i dont really need it since i mostly travel to tlv and they dont stamp and neither does the US if you use global entry. So my passport is pretty empty.

I am guessing it must be bulkier so why bother.
