Children in Premium Class
« on: February 28, 2017, 11:42:46 AM »
Feeling conflicted about this - What are the DDF oilam's thoughts about taking children (old enough to appreciate, 8+) in Premium cabins? For example, I can currently book JFK-LAX in AA in F for less than Y, which ordinarily wouldn't think twice. But I'm traveling with my daughter, and feel that it's inappropriate to 'teach' her that this is our standard of flying.

Depends on if you can afford it points wise etc.
your getting her used to something.....
depends on how frequent and if it you only do F and J with her

but most prob kids at that age will forget or not realize.....

The getting her used to something is my biggest concern. The points are not an issue, and it happens to be the cheapest option available.
I think she'll notice, she's flown plenty in Y, so has what to compare.

And she will be back in Y again presumably. Just explain that sometimes it can make sense to fly fancier because it is cheaper.

If this is not a common thing then I don't think it's an issue. It's ok to treat a child once in a while, you can say it's a special treat for something she did or a milestone or just because.

When I was a child my parents took my to Paris in biz class (which was not the same as it is today...no lie flat seats) once and it was such a fun treat. They surprised me with it. I knew this wasn't something we do all the time but it's ok to do something special once in a while.

Many here would say you should absolutely teach her at a young age :D

I took my kids JFK-LAX in J during the glitch.  They were 11, 8 and 5.  While they enjoyed J, they were more excited about going to LAX than anything else... I wouldn't sweat it...

We each have our own level with this. Based on my lack of travels as a child, frankly I'm concerned with taking a kid on a plane for any vacation.

I imagine it greatly depends on how each kid handles it. Mine is a champ B"H

Don't worry about it. It is when you are in first and she is coach is when they start asking questions.

OP was talking about LAX-JFK. it's not 15k in F but the reason it's cheaper is saver F vs standard variable Y

Same exact principle.
I'm a little shocked DDFers are even asking this.
