Was looking at Kosher Food NEAR the airport during a possibly long layover and came upon this: https://www.yelp.com/biz/leas-cafe-ciudad-de-m%C3%A9xico

Might be the only kosher airport establishment outside of Israel?
Wow!

Before security, definitely worth a stop! And try their bagel chips style.
I believe I wrote a review about it last year (or at least I wanted to :) )

Anyone been to Mexico City recently and can report back on kosher situation?

Holding a ticket now for the end of April, AM J on 787-900 both ways for ~$560 RT.

The 2 restaurants in the wiki are both in Polanco area. Are there any other kosher restaurants or list somewhere of others?

What about Shul's in the area?

Thanks.

More of a fast food takeout than a restaurant, though it can be counted too.

I am interviewing Gavriel, who runs Gaucho, as we speak. So far I'm in love with this place. Will report back shortly.

Here in Mexico City for a night, quick live trip report.

We flew in on the Aeromexico 787-9 from JFK. Seats on this plane are great, reverse herringbone and very comfortable. Service was decent and comparable to US Airlines on international flights. Meal was from Kosher4U and included chicken, carrot and potato hot dish. (Pictures of that to be posted in KSML thread). Pillow was plush and the blanket was not. There was no amenity kit offered.

Immigration in MEX took about 30 minutes of waiting in line.

Uber from the airport to Polanco was $7.60 USD for the 45 minute ride to Polanco. Polanco is the most affluent neighborhood in Mexico City. Most of the Jewish community live here as well as the kosher restaurants. The high end hotels are all here too, including Hyatt Regency, Intercontinental, JW Marriott, S. Regis, Westin and more.

Dinner tonight was at Gaucho Grill. We came to the restaurant at about 9pm and the place was empty, just one other table dining. (It later filled up a lot, closer to 10/10:30. This is common in many Latin American countries to have a very later dinner). Menus are only available in Spanish and the wait staff did not know much English. We got around fine using a litttle of their English and a little of my Spanish.

For appetizers we had some empanadas and fajitas. For mains we got a grass fed chalunt steak and bbq ribs. All dishes here were incredible and very pricey! (Relative to cost of other expenses here). Most of the steaks / ribs go for $895 MXN, or about $50 USD. While not cheap, it is worth to make the trip here as the dishes are excellent.

From there it is a short 2 minute walk to Hyatt regency where we are staying tonight. The hotel is a category 3 and can be booked using a free anniversary night. Great use of the night here, as rates for the night were upwards of $400 USD.

Hyatt emailed me a couple days ago to ask if I had any special requests and what’s foods I like. (I don’t have any high status with them). I wrote back asking for a room on a high floor with a great view. As for foods I like, I explained we are kosher and can only have fruits, nuts and drinks.

At check in we were assigned a room on the 29th floor with a view. In the room there was an ice bucket with 2 bottles of Corona waiting for us. We were also given a card to redeem for a fruit basket.

Pictures to follow iyh.

And here I thought that the "cholent meat" scam was unique to Chassidisha groceries in NY.

:) - was far from a cholent meat.. when we asked the waiter to explain the different meats, he says “wait a minute” and walks off. Comes back a minute later with a tray of many different meat cuts that were unprepared for a live demonstration.
