Daylight "Saving" Time - Pro or Con
« on: March 12, 2017, 09:22:04 AM »
Most people I know dislike DST, yet we still go through this annual (senseless IMHO) ritual, which had been made worse during the Bush administration, making it even longer.

What do DDFers think.

Maybe someone could start a poll?

I agree with the article.

I love when I hear this: The suffering of the spring time change begins with the loss of an hour of sleep.

No I didn't lose an hour sleep. I just got up an hour later according to the clock.
"LESS IS MORE" It is the cumulative effect that kills deals!!! How many times do I have to say this?  >:(

IMHO people with young children especially dislike it. Harder to get kids to bed during daylight (not to mention the ones that should need to get to bed earlier, but stay up for ספירת העומר).

And for those that prefer not to daven before הנץ החמה, extending the time when morning schedule is challenged.

Having the Seder begin late is just one other nuisance.

Appropos to mention Bush today, the achashveirosh of our times. I think he extended DST because he thought that would make him seem conservation friendly. Most central ac units dont care what time it is when its hot.

So what are we going to do about it?

Came here to post that many people will be happy that k"sh and chatzos are an hour later. Especially on a day like today.

Everything has its pros and cons, and sometimes it's nice to have Shabbos come in a drop later, or end later, but IMHO taking everything in balance, I'd rather have it all on standard time.

Correct, as ExGingi pointed out. I was pointing out the positive side of it. :)

I guess another positive is getting home from work after a storm and being able to shovel during daylight.  ;D ;D ;D

The article did not show causation.

Personally, I've been looking forward to switching the clock back ever since the fall.  I'd like DST year round, with an extra hour in the winter, maybe adjusted a few minutes per week instead of an hour in one shot.

Problem being that sunrise in the winter would be at 8:30am.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Sounds better to me than 4:30 sunset.

Doesn't leave much time for shachris before work, but that aside.
