Update:

Majority don't want it. Aside from Florida - who does this benefit?

I'd read it as the majority do want to stop changing the clocks.
As for why DST, it's because Rubio is advocating for it and ST doesn't have a champion in congress.

I read it as a non-issue.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

My biggest problem with this whole thing is the use of a MS Word page border.

The most surprising aspect to me about this is that it passed unanimously!

This law is a Big Government law. Where are all the Small Government advocates?

If you think about it, the main implication of Time Zones is on commerce. Before mechanical clocks (and instant communication) each locale could have it's own clock (determined by a sundial). Major tampering with time zones seems to occur with centralized power. The most obvious examples of those are Russia and Turkey. Private businesses can decide at what time to start and end their days or shifts, regardless of the mandated time zone or ST vs DST. The place where it matters is government (whether government offices, or local ordinances which are time dependent such as parking, construction/noise, etc.)

Wouldn't it make more sense to split each of the current US time zones into two (30 minutes apart) and give each locale the option to choose their time zone?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Who cares to get that granular and confusing besides religious Jews?

Why is it any more confusing than the current status? On the contrary, it allows for a more gradual transition and could benefit commerce.

It's the same government regardless, with the exception maybe being ST all year round so everything just stays as "default".

Letting each locale choose a different time would be disastrous. Imagine driving through the country and the time keeps jumping back and forth.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Wasn't it a voice vote? That just means that nobody objected. It's possible that the chamber was half empty, and nobody there even realized what was happening.

Kind of like the unanimous voice vote we recently saw in one of the Knesset committees after committee members were called out for consultation.

Tell me about American values.

I once had this wild idea for a 58-minute hour, you’d gain a 48-minute hour every day. I mean, is there anyone you know who really maximizes every hour and can’t spare two minutes?

And then you take all the minutes saved during the week and use them for תוספת שבת.
