did a quick search and didnt find any answer...im new to the smartphone arena..downloaded whatsapp onto my blackberry and it asked for trusted status to my contacts etc and other stuff on my phone. wondering if thats normal and if its not risky with sensitive info i store on my device?
It's safe. All it's looking for is your contact list so it can match with other people using the whatsapp service so you can contact them.
It's like using a photo editing app and it needs permission to access your photo album to find your data to work with.

+1 I think almost any app you download asks for the trusted permissions.

Not sure how it works on the htc1 but on the s3 I had to move eve conversations from the sd card to the internal storage.

+1

You have to find the whatsapp folder. In there there is a folder called databases. That is where you have to move the most recent .db.crypt file from your old phone.

didnt read through this whole thread- but is there a way around paying for whatsapp on android after the first year?
Yes, activate your phone number on an iPhone that already has Whatsapp installed, open whatsapp, register that whatsapp to your number, change your number back to your Android. You should have another year of whatsapp for $0. I did that last year, it worked.
