You can just not listen to VNs which are longer than 30 seconds.

They should make a 30 second limit for Voice notes

So that people should send a 4 minute VN in 8 parts like they do with a 4 minute video on status?

Some people will still do it but most people will keep VN shorter.
Another benefit would be for me, I use WA to communicate with clients, so when someone is telling me there comments and directions on the way they want something done, instead of having all the comments crumpled up in 1 VN and me having to play/pause the VN to take notes and then go back and try to find a certain comment that took him to say 3 seconds squeezed in somewhere within the 4 minutes, VS having 8 VN 30 seconds each with a few comments

If your offering clients the option of using WA that's making a decision that your fine with them sending long VNs to you.
From a user prospective having the voicenote cut in middle is a terrible idea. I personally don't prefer when people send me VN on important topics if unnecessary, but will listen to it at a later time.

Give them 5 years to catch up to telegram and have the voicenotes auto transcribed

I hate the new desktop version they are pushing you on. You can't even download the prior version, everything just points to the new one from the windows store.

What's the problem with the new one?
I like it better then the old one, it works smoother for me

For one, it doesn't "close" you're still getting notifications after the app is closed. And it's more difficult to reply to messages. I already removed it and went back to the old version which I thankfully still had the installer for

Startup time is a game changer. Your disadvantage of getting notifications is an advantage to most. What's the difficulty in replying?

I believe there is a setting where you can choose how it "closes".
Although I agree that there are still bugs in the newer version that need to be ironed out.
And somehow, on one computer it was using 150+ GB of storage!

Which platform?

WhatsApp now let's multiple devices to include phones and tablets and has a beta feature to transfer chats via WiFi direct.

ios ... beta... so I'll use this for the 4 years it will take to get to Android
