I don't like 3rd party drives because they usually dump in the cheapest drive inside.

Hitachi makes great drives under the name hgst now as they were bought by WD but still all manufacturing and parts are the same there one of the best in my opinion.

They def wouldn't be my choice as top manufacturer. Hard drives depend on Family, Model, and very often luck. External Hard drives are always inferior quality to internal drives..

I agree internal vs external. Who would be your top choice as a manufacturer?
Obviously all hard drives are bound to fail.

Depends on the model number. Seagate has some great drives, WD has some great ones and so do other manufacturers. They also have some really bad models as well for example seagate had a huge firmware bug when they changed to 7200.11 that pretty much caused millions of drives to stop working. WD passport drives with the onboard usb imo are one of the worst family of drives on the market... You have to read up before you purchase a drive
