In doing some research on the TLV-HKG route, I note that El-Al consistently charges $2628 for a one way and $3325 for a round trip in business. Cathay on the other hand charges $4925 for a one way and $7576 for a round trip on the same route.

Now today, CX flies their A350 on this route, while LY flies their 777 on this route. Reports on FT are that this route has been very successful for them and that getting a J award ticket is hard to find. I get spending more for CX here since Lie flat cannot compare to LY angle flat.

Now in March LY is switching the 787 onto this route. The hard product will be superior to the one CX offers. Will LY raise their price, or will CX be forced to lower it. Either way, its' interesting to see how this will play out.

Where are you getting those CX prices from? CX is $2500/$4000. (CX schedule is much more limited, and award space is nonexistent.)

Those prices are definitely not indicative of what CX usually charges.

There were a few posts noting seat issues on the CX A350 that I read. Assuming that the LY 787 does not have the seats coming apart, its superior to me.

As I've mentioned a few weeks ago, the PE has been an amazing success for El Al. Unfortunately, that gave them good reason to raise the starting price to $2101.12!!! (for P class). Hopefully, DL switches the route to the a350 soon to add some competition in the market. In the meantime, Delta is "fooling" people into premium economy on the a330 at expensive rates for a worthless product (same 8 abreast as economy)

Don't see DL should be expensive. They price W dynamic, basically whatever Econ is still available plus a markup, I believe it's the same like econ with E+ round trip

I believe it's just about the same as upgrade to economy plus would cost. In any case, if something, travel agents benefit from this as they finally get a commission for economy plus...

Used to be time consuming, issue separate etc, now it's all in the tkt + you earn commissions
