Just a thought:
Anyone remember that when they placed the orders for the 787s, El Al promised that it won't cost their customers any more money because they would be saving on fuel? It's just interesting that the past 2 winter, flights to NYC never went over the $900 mark (for U class), and this year they never went below $934 besides during a few sales they had... (the average for U this winter is about $100 more than it was 2 years ago IINM)

Was looking at flights for the TLV-HKG route in August and I noticed that elal switching out their 787 to a 777 for that route in July and August. Anyone aware of this? Why would that be?

Maybe slot issues?

It's actually from the beginning of scheduling (of the second 787 on this route) through Apr 11 that this flight was moved to JFK and renamed as 21/22. I would assume that it's either slot issues or government approval issues.

Was extended today, must be slot/government issues as you said

Anyone know what’s going on with tonight ewr-tlv flight? I had someone booked on the 9pm, which got cancelled and moved to jfk as LY22, now I see that it’s scheduled for 11:10 and estimated for 9PM????

Furthermore on the reservation it says 1:35am flight 1022?

It was delayed to 11:10 pm a few days ago and today they changed again the schedule with a new flight number.  It's scheduled for 1:35A

So despite wanting to go to United (partly due to the reports people here gave on the Elal 787) I'll be flying ewr-tlv on Elal 787 in Y on June 4. Any tips on how to make what by all accounts is almost torture somewhat more manageable? (Other than praying for a lot of empty seats on the plane.....

This past winter during the week of Yarchei Kallah, my wife overheard the following chat between 2 American women in Hadar Geula in Yerushalayim.
(Y passengers)
Woman A: So how is your trip coming along? With which airline did you come here?
Woman B: United. Past summer we flew El Al and it was so bad, we decided to try United this time.
Woman A: That's interesting. Last time, we flew United and it was so bad, we decided to try El Al this time.

I think that pretty much sums it up. Don't expect to sit 12 hours in a stiff chair (on any airline) and arrive at your destination all refreshed and rested. It's part of flying economy.

Condescencion aside, (and thank you for that), any actually helpful tips?
I've had the "pleasure" of flying economy to EY on both United and Elal, I'm quite aware that neither is exactly comfortable. Never having gone on the 787 yet though, I still found it helpful to look in these forums and get informed by the consensus of others experience that United is a little less bad. All I was asking is if theres anything else that could help with that, specific seats, etc.

Plenty. Best seats are row 17. Meal service is a significant upgrade from economy (even the skml). Anything else?

Why would you fly premium economy for 12 hours if you could fly J?

I wouldn't do that :)
Though I'm pretty sure that if you end up flying LY they will upgrade you to J, especially on the day flight as it doesn't have that many business travelers.
