Sources in ELAL confirm to me that there are talks to leave the 747 fly to JFK for a while.
And I see now that the 747 is operating until end of schedule. Is this new?

I just had a relative who flies LY J a lot and just took the dreamliner in J for the first time, say that he prefers the old cabin as the footwells are very narrow and make you feel claustrophobic on the new plane
seriously, the old J was not even lie-flat

That depends on how old. The more recent 777 and 744 seats have been lie flat for quite a while. They are not new seats, but a different configuration. It seems that the original seat design could allow them to be lie flat or angled. Initially they were angled, but they were adjusted to be lie flat a good few years ago.

that is correct. And he usually travels with his wife or son so he doesn't care for the direct aisle access

El Al Israel Airlines earlier this month filed planned operation with its new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, set to enter service in the 4th quarter of 2019. The configuration of the 787-8 is C20W35Y183.

Initially the airline filed Toronto and Paris CDG as first 2 destinations to receive 787-8 service, however this has been expanded in last week’s schedule update.

As of 24MAR19, planned 787-8 network includes the following.

Tel Aviv – Boston eff 15DEC19 3 weekly (until 29MAR19)
Tel Aviv – Chicago O’Hare eff 22MAR20 3 weekly (1 weekly from 29MAR20)

I guess 20 seats for a cabin makes for more personalized service than 60. Though it really depends on the FA/passenger ratio.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

My point was that LY is competing with UA on this route and they not even offering daily which UA does. UA fills those Business seats and thats were the profit is so how they are planning to make a profit with 20 Business seats seems weird...

They're obviously not primarily targeting the business market for this route.

Maybe they see PE as where they will make profits.

Keep in mind they are launching in May with a 787-9 so will be 10 months with "regular" Dreamliner
