Just noticed that El Al is bringing back Economy Plus to their 787-8. (in addition to Premium Economy)
Front 7 rows of economy (63 seats), not counting the exit rows of the back half. That's significantly more seats than the 747/777. But their also lowering the price to $110 (from $160), probably to balance the increase.

First 787-8 (4X-ERA) was delivered this past Thursday night. First commercial flight departed to BKK last night and just returned to TLV about 3 hours ago.

Economy plus is a standard economy seat with extra leg room. Premium Economy is a separate cabin, wider seats, more recline, more leg room, upgraded meal and service, and extra baggage allowance.

Premium economy is a class of its own. Wider seats, less seats per row and business class meals.
Economy plus is just more legroom and recline.

El Al is already retrofitting the 787-9. Starting March 29, there will be 5 rows of PE (as opposed to 4). And rows 21-32 in economy (entire front half of Y) will be "El Al Space" with extra leg room at $99 each, replacing what used to be called "Economy Plus". (I'm guessing that with the drop from $160 to $99, the extra leg room is probably less significant that the old E+)

It's a perfect balance for someone "balebatish", who's not interested in paying 4k+ for business. It's also very good for Rabbonim etc.
A perfect example:
One of my clients flew a few weeks ago on the same flight as Harav Malkiel Kotler and his wife in PE. He noted to me that if it was the old planes, he definitely would've been sitting in business, as it's not very befitting for such a person to sit in Y. But with PE, it's great. It's anyway not likely that he would stretch out on a bed in business class in "public"....
In this particular case, El Al probably lost from the premium ;)
But there are many elites who used to be happy with 21a etc, and now are addicted to PE.
In any case, I think NYC - TLV is one of the best routes for PE (not sure why Delta is so stupid), as there's not so much corporate travelers (who pay revenue J), but a lot of people with luxury standards. UA PE is practically always sold out.

I never understand how someone can fly a rebbe or rosh yeshiva somewhere not in J (this may not be the case here).
I have a rebbe I book for from time to time to be mesader kedushin. I always upsell Y and offer J at the absolute lowest cost, just so people should fly him J. It's none of my business to say anything, but I once offered Y for 2k, and J for 2.5k, sadly he flew Y...

Actually they advertize 34'' legroom, so seems the same at E+ in 777. They don't talk about recline though.

Also the Space seats will be installed across the fleet, no just 787
