Very true.
I never understand how someone can fly a rebbe or rosh yeshiva somewhere not in J (this may not be the case here).
I have a rebbe I book for from time to time to be mesader kedushin. I always upsell Y and offer J at the absolute lowest cost, just so people should fly him J. It's none of my business to say anything, but I once offered Y for 2k, and J for 2.5k, sadly he flew Y...
For many people Y is the norm and completely acceptable. I definitely don't agree that every Rebbe needs to be flown J.

He doesn't necessarily need to fly PE or J, but if you are flying him in for something, it's the appropriate thing to give them something above economy (JMHO). That goes for any respectable person, but especially when it's kavod hatorah etc.

El Al is already retrofitting the 787-9. Starting March 29, there will be 5 rows of PE (as opposed to 4). And rows 21-32 in economy (entire front half of Y) will be "El Al Space" with extra leg room at $99 each, replacing what used to be called "Economy Plus". (I'm guessing that with the drop from $160 to $99, the extra leg room is probably less significant that the old E+)
Business class will also be renumbered from 9-16 to 1-8

It is the difference between him returning ready to just go back to learning and needing recovery time.

You need recovery time either way

Its part of EL AL history. First of all, EL AL had a principle that there was never a "row 1". Next, to cope with varying sizes of cabins, business class always started at row 9. Economy always started at 21.

Interesting.
The row 1 part I knew. Not sure if I'm mixing up but I recall that " row 1 is the pilot" or something like this..

I'm not that old but would assume on the 747 First class was on the upper lever rows till 8, so business started on row 9 across the board, econ always at row 21. Even the UP configuration started on row 21. Now that they don't have F anymore I guess they will renumber Business to row 1

There are many airlines like that, especially the Chinese. One always knows what rows are Business or Economy no matter the aircraft type

No. There were 3 rows on one side and 2 on the other side. The upper deck of the 747-200 was quite small. After they decided it was not good enough for First Class they left the seats as they were and they became part of business class. But they were significantly better than the other business class seats on these "flying museums" as we used to call them, so they would put higher status business class passengers there.

I guess that explains why the 737s jump from row 27 to 44 because 45 is an exit on the wide bodies (not anymore on the Dreamliner new configuration). Never knew this.

He said the same thing on his flight to Rome, only then he was probably right (special flights that were RT ex-TLV). From HKG, I'm doubting it.

Looks like the only flight later this year that will still be on 772 to NYC, is the midnight flight to EWR. All other ones are showing 787-8 and 787-9
