I think ha gufa the argument is that oats are not one of the 5 grains for that reason, and that 2-row and 6-row barley are 2 of the 5
Is that what this author is saying? I thought I saw somewhere in there a list of the 5 and oats were included, but I might be wrong. I am aware that there is some debate over whether oats are considered one of the 5 but in my understanding the majority opinion is that it is.

I didn't read it.  I was just noting that it's debated whether oats are one of the 5.

Personally, I wouldn't mind making shehakol on cheerios.

A better question is, if oats are not a grain, are they kitniyos?

Did he reach his conclusion based on the shtickle or did he reach the shtickle based on the conclusion?

yes, its debated, but what isnt in our religion. Bottom line is Rav Moshe, Rav Elyashiv, and The Rav all held that oats are the 5th grain.

THAT is your source? The minhag to have thin matzo comes from the RIV"A and the Kol Bo quoting drashos HaRaAVa"D based upon a rashi
...
and codified by RMA
...

There's a distinction to be made between THIN matzos (רקיקין), which also the Yemenites do, and CRACKER style matzos (which have much less water and are kneaded much faster), which I believe are much more recent.

As a side note, if you look in Rashi on this weeks parsha (ויקרא ב, ה) it seems that even though the previous psukim are talking about רקיקין, only this one is hard due to frying, hence רקיקין are not necessarily hard, but only thin.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

From the discussions of the poskim and what they are contrasting it to it is clear that they are talking about hard matzo like ours. What you are quoting does not refer to a change in the texture of the baked matzo but to a change in the kneading process.

I just sampled lakewood matzah.  Bitter stuff. Are they all this terrible?
I'm not sure why everyone says it's so terrible..
Been eating it for years and I think it's great.

having spoken to dozens of people who have tried it (I have even given it to people just to try) you are the first person to ever tell me that they didnt think it was disgusting.

Disgusting is a strong word to describe a food that you dislike.
Either way, I like it. Not that I have another option..
