There is no stopover from Turkey to the US...

Is a stopover only when you stay on the plane?
TLV-IST-JFK is not a stopover, Is that called a conection?

TSA runs carry-on screening in AUH.
TSA doesn't know how to (or has political reasons not to) screen like the Israelis. Engaging the passenger while looking in their eyes, along with some profiling, seems to be more effective than liquid (and other) bans and removing shoes. Funny thing is that upon boarding a flight to the US at TLV one is asked whether they are carrying liquids, but nothing gets verified.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

The Israelis have to do it but apparently don't really care for it. I have seen them pull ppl out of the line to check for liquids. Was that not the real  reason given god knows.

I thought so too, I recently flew back from Israel and was surprised that they opened my carry on right before the gate and took my deodorant (which incidentally passed TSA security on the way to Israel), they took my Brother's bottle of Coke too...

Anyone think their intelligence had vague info about an impending attack like the one in UK today?
Worth noting that today is the 1 year anniversary of the Brussels Airport attack which is certainly flying-related.

Was that the one at Westminster Airport?

I know you're being sarcastic, but it's possible they had intelligence that an unspecified terror act was planned in UK for anniversary of Belgium bombing. All this is obviously speculative but I do think there are interesting coincidences worth considering.

Also worth noting that if the ban was some scaremongering Trump policy I don't think the UK would have enacted their own ban. There had to be substance behind it.

I'm not quite sure if I think the ban is purely ulterior motives, purely driven by security, or some combination of the two. What I'm pretty confident of is that its execution looks pretty suspect.

I think the execution (especially by the UK) shows that the intelligence made it urgent to enact these rules immediately.

I'm saying that the way the US implemented the ban seems full of holes if it's for security reasons.

Wonder if they'll let you check bags for free if flight has no baggage allowance (e.g., LCC to UL). Also, will they let you cancel if you decide restrictions make travel too onerous.
