if so then why wouldnt it also include US airlines flying from those countries

because there is no non stop flights from these countries to the US

ok, so then why wouldnt the fear be that someone could take one of these weaponized laptops and bring it to somewhere that does fly into the US on a different airline?

For those that don't speak or read Hebrew the tweet says
Turkish Airlines Official: Anyone who flies with the company from Israel to the US will have to store the laptop in the suitcase because of the new restrictions

Yeah, had that backwards in my head.

The only rationale I can think of for non-stop=problem, stopover=no problem (besides the logistics of enforcing this anywhere that connects to US), is that they don't trust the carry-on screening in those airports, but do trust the checked baggage screening. And then in the non-banned stopover airports, they're trusting even the carry-on screening. While that adequately explains it, it seems like a big stretch.

TSA runs carry-on screening in AUH.

Yeah, there was speculation yesterday that this fact would cause AUH to be exempt, but that appears not to be the case.
