Reminds me of a flight I took with IB many years ago (some kind of error fare that involved one leg being booked in business class and overnight stay at MAD with hotel paid by IB) for the duration of the flight there was no IFE, and IIRC cabin lights weren't even dimmed for a substantial portion of the flight. People were walking around going crazy with nothing to do. Flight attendant were mostly MIA.

Or, you know, just watch movies. The IFE is much better than an airline like Elal anyway, and is more extensive than what most people keep on their tablets/laptops.

Yeah, it's actually pretty strange that they're not using it as an opportunity to tout their IFE. My guess is that they care much more about losing business customers, who won't be able to use their laptops. Hence their less than enthusiastic reception of the ban.

Why would they? The issue was with the specific airports/countries of origin. Being that certain airlines flights to the US/UK invariably originate at those airports, it was taken as an issue with the airlines. But this is evidently just about the airport of origin.

So this could be a potential source of envy between passengers who travel from affected countries with a stopover in a non-affected country (such as your examples of MXP and ATH) where those that boarded at the original origin, will not be allowed a laptop (unless they obtained it at the stopover airport) and those that boarded at the stopover will be allowed.

ETA: Now if EK and EY were smart, they would create a stopover/5th Freedom flight between TLV and their US gateways.
