penfed is 5% when paid at the pump, 1% when paid inside the gas station. i would assume that, at most, you'd get 1% on GCs puchased inside the gas station. ive' never used the penfed inside the gas station because if i'm going inside, i'll use a diff card that gives better than 1%.
As for debit cards, it should be cash if you're using it in "debit mode", i.e., using your PIN. But I haven't used my debit card in years and with the rule changes this year, who knows for sure?
On a separate note, someone mentioned (too lazy to go back and quote - sorry) buying gc's to use for gas in a supermarket when chase freedom had 5% on groceries. Would that work buying gc's from gas stations with the PenFed, to get the 5% without paying the cc fee? and if so, anyone know which stations generally sell gc's in the NY area?
Also, what happens with debit cards (which is essentially what gift cards are). If you pay at the pump with a debit card does it charge you the cash price of the cc price?
