Is your costco really 23.5 cents a gallon cheaper than other gas stations?  I've been to Costco around here and they're slightly cheaper but not that much.
In Hawaii the Costcos were as much as 50 cents cheaper per gallon.  Agreed that different Costcos will have different relative pricing.
The nice thing about Costco is they don't change their price during a day, so when all the other stations jump up (read: gouge) by 40 cents mid-day due to some bad news somewhere that means its time for a trip to Costco.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Ok, let me clarify this Exxon and possibly Sunoco give you the credit price when using a GC.
Are you sure? Have you tried this?

Excuse me?
There are hundreds and hundreds of Costco gas stations nationwide.  Why can't many people emulate that "strategy?"

It's not like there's only 1 Costco nationwide?

As long you think I'm discussing a strategy only I can use...I filled up 30 gallons today at a station that charges $3.89/gallon and paid $19 for it with Giant Eagle prescription fuelperks coupons.  There, now you have what to be angry at me for posting something most people can't do.

Where and how can I obtain a gaint eagle presciption duelperks coupon??

These ought to get you some 80 gallons of free gas if you're in the Giant Eagle region:

A few hundred gas stations nationwide is nothing, a drop in the bucket considering there are probably over 100k total. It would have to be close by enough to be cost effective for saving (ie not so far as to eat up your savings in gas getting there). The percentage of the total population with that kind of access to a Costco (not to mention one person already reported that the Costco near them is not significantly cheaper than the competition) is pretty small.

Anyway, Dan, it was pretty silly of me in the first place to pretend to dictate to you what to and not to post about. I guess I'm just sensitive about my beloved PenFed  :D. We all have our faults.

Credit, unless  perhaps if you put in your pin? IDK.

penfed is 5% when paid at the pump, 1% when paid inside the gas station.  i would assume that, at most, you'd get 1% on GCs puchased inside the gas station.  ive' never used the penfed inside the gas station because if i'm going inside, i'll use a diff card that gives better than 1%.

As for debit cards, it should be cash if you're using it in "debit mode", i.e., using your PIN.    But I haven't used my debit card in years and with the rule changes this year, who knows for sure?

On a separate note, someone mentioned (too lazy to go back and quote - sorry) buying gc's to use for gas in a supermarket when chase freedom had 5% on groceries. Would that work buying gc's from gas stations with the PenFed, to get the 5% without paying the cc fee? and if so, anyone know which stations generally sell gc's in the NY area?

Also, what happens with debit cards (which is essentially what gift cards are). If you pay at the pump with a debit card does it charge you the cash price of the cc price?

I went into a Shell station and they had gift cards but they told me they dont have the machine to activate the card.  Whats the point of having the cards then?

Why dont u purchase an exxon gc with your cc  -(make sure it shows up as a gas purchase on your cc statement) - then use the gc to buy gas. most gas stations charge the "cash" price when paying with thier own cc (e.g. Exxon cc ) or when using a gc.
so do you get 1% inside the gas station (for gas gift cards) or 5%
i have the Amex simply cash with a 3% gas rebate, does anyone have experiance with this? thanks

I have and use the Simply Cash card all the time. You'll get 3% back on all gas at the pump (as long as the gas station is listed as a gas station and not a stand alone store. Most of them are listed as gas stations).

you get 5% at the pump, 1% inside.  soon to change though (points instead of cashback, inside going to .25%) - check out the new penfed thread...
