Got it from a BBM group.
From a Friend on the Plane:
We left tall aviv to NY at 1:30AM (6:30PM NY time) right after takeoff we felt the plane was not ok, it was shaking and make very unusual vibration, after a few min the pilot called all the flight attendance to the cabin then he announced that due to a technical problem with the aircraft (he didn't say what it is) we have to return to the airport, but 1st has to dump the fuel, after 20 min he said that the main landing gear is stuck and he is consulting with the airport what to do next, and after 20 min he announced that the airport decided to wait till sunrise so the engineers on the ground can visually see what is wrong with the aircraft and it will take till 5:30AM to see what the problem is with the landing gear, he also said that we have more then enough fuel to stay in the air for a while, we where circulating
80 miles from isreal above sea for 5 hour
the whole time we heard and felt heavy vibration and noise from the center of the aircraft where the landing gear is locate

Once the sun came up we saw military aircraft coming close to our aircraft they where circulating below of our plane to inspect the condition of the landing gear.
Then they reported back to us that it is BH safe to land.
Bh we landed safely.
There is 100s of fire truck arounds us

Not confirmed but I heard from a good source that it was the Left MLG

I am waiting to hear something like this. None of the pictures looked like a rough landing.

Perhaps the military aircraft didn't see anything wrong with the landing gear and then cleared them to land.

Seems this was much ado about nothing then...

Maariv Apparently the rear wheels did not lock in to position properly, this was indeed confirmed by F16s who cleared the craft for an emergency landing, after the landing is was verified that there was indeed an extremely rare problem withe the wheels mechanism. All this is from the CEO of El-Al

my dad was on the earlier elal flight,supposed to leave tav at 10:30 am, ended up leaving 7:15pm due to a "technical malfunction",thank god everyone's o.k. but do you think it's about time elal upgrades it's ancient fleet?

Personally I've never flown El Al, so I can't comment. I've flown CO, DL, LX, and SN to Israel so far.

What an awful job by YWN dramatizing the story and scaring the %$&* out of everyone especially when they were completely unaware of the facts. Until I emailed them, they thought it was a flight from Berlin. El Al has never flown a wide-body 777 to Berlin before. Most importantly, they made it seems that there was a good chance that the passengers "wouldn't make it". That was never the case. Planes land all the time with a malfunctioning wheel.
