Returned payment on Amex
« on: May 24, 2011, 10:26:19 AM »
I recently wrote a check from an old account for mine and my wifes Amex card. Amex charged back my payment claiming that the account I was drawing from was frozen . I called up and started arguing that its impossible for 2 reasons a)the bank denies it and Amex processed a check for my wife the very next day. She says she cant help me but she will refund the fee and I should pay again. I insisted I want it expunged from my file and she kept on insisting that as long as I pay on time there are no consequences , not on my credit report nor from Amex internally.

Much to my chagrin a second party check that I submitted 2 months ago was challanged by my friend when he didnt recognize the charge and was charged back . In both cases I never passed any deadlines without having my balance paid in full.

Is it true what that CSR told me or is this going to come back and bite me?

not true. but doesnt bite
if its not true than there are consequences . If it doesn't bite then there aren't . Do you mean they keep records but it doesn't affect your score or your chances when applying for credit with them.

Why isn't there a spell check option? It would be very beneficial.

That post would need a grammar check too.

engage babble mode....    :)

it doesn't report to cr

it doesn't end up in a credit report from one of the three bureaus.

its an eternal amex thing

it's an internal amex thing.  they do keep info forever so maybe it is eternal too (e.g., I got my first amex in the 80s and a year or two ago, I asked them a question about it and they had the answer so the info is still in there)...

witch olso does not effect (generally) getting an amex card it adds to your profile like the other hunndred things

which also doesn't affect future applications for an amex card

it adds to your profile like the other hunndred things

amex keeps track of all kinds of info on you and this is just another datapoint that their model will consume.

I was actually just automatically declined for the Amex SimplyCash card because there were returned payments on my account. I had mistakenly selected the wrong bank when I tried to pay my bills- and the account ended up being overdrawn- by 1 dollar!

So I would assume that returned payments do affect future applications.
